Empathy to the Rescue

This particular soldier walked into the Bank and threatened to cause a scene.

During my industrial attachment, I was filling in for a customer service
assistant in another branch when a soldier walked in and came to our
desk to ask for his account number because he couldn't remember it.

Senior staff were very much engrossed in work and asked him for his contact so
as to trace, he also couldn't remember; according to him it was a new
account and the sim was equally new.

He was told that nothing could be done for him at this point until he could provide one of the two information needed of him.
That was when he became angry and threatened to cause a scene.

Now,I had access to the database and could perform some checks as I was
filling in for someone. I put myself in his shoes and thought what could
I do differently to assist him despite the fact that he was Irate.

I asked him for some other details aside the ones he couldn't remember
and told him I will try to run a check to see if I can find it.

To confirm it was his, I asked him to deposit as little as N500, if it was his, he would get the alert and he did.

He was very happy, I was happy, the scene-causing was averted

and we lived happily ever after 😊 (just kidding on this last part).

My point is this... Empathy; the journey to a better world starts with you and I.
